Wetel vs. Bland.ai

Bland.ai’s Pathways product shares real philosophical ground with Wetel: both are deterministic-graph builders, not “an LLM improvises the whole conversation” systems. The difference is what’s built around that graph.

Bland.aiWetel
3D / visual avatarNo — voice/telephony onlyYes — native, browser-rendered, $0/hr
Workflow builderYes — Pathways, a deterministic graph, API-firstYes — visual node-graph
Knowledge base / RAGPaid add-on only, not nativeYes, native
Telephony / SIPCore productRoadmap item — see Roadmap
Self-hosted / open-coreNoYes
Provider-agnosticNoYes

Telephony is Bland’s entire reason to exist — if the product is exclusively an outbound or inbound calling agent, Bland’s infrastructure for that specific job is more mature than Wetel’s current roadmap-stage SIP support. Its API-first design also suits teams who want programmatic pathway construction over a visual editor.

Bland has no native knowledge base — RAG is a paid add-on, not part of the core product, which means grounding a Pathway in your own documents is an extra integration rather than a first-class feature. And like Retell, there’s no avatar and no self-hosting option, which rules Bland out entirely for any visual or infrastructure-sovereignty requirement.

Pick Bland if the product is a phone-calling agent built API-first and RAG isn’t a core requirement. Pick Wetel if you want native RAG without an add-on, a visual avatar option, or the ability to self-host.
