Wetel vs. HeyGen

HeyGen’s Interactive Avatar API is genuinely the most photorealistic real-time avatar product available — but it’s fundamentally a video-generation product, not a conversational orchestration platform. There’s no workflow builder, no native knowledge base, no tool-calling; the avatar is the product.

If the entire point of the product is a photorealistic digital human — a virtual presenter, a video-generation pipeline, a demo that needs to look indistinguishable from a real person on camera — HeyGen’s rendering quality isn’t something Wetel’s WebGL avatar competes with directly. That’s a real, different use case.

The moment the requirement shifts from “looks real” to “can look something up, follow a decision tree, and hand off to a human when it doesn’t know the answer,” HeyGen has no answer — it’s not built to be one. Every one of those capabilities has to be built on top of it from scratch, in a separate system, then wired to HeyGen purely as a rendering layer.

Pick HeyGen if photorealism is the actual product requirement and the interaction doesn’t need conversational logic beyond what you build yourself. Pick Wetel if the avatar is one part of a larger conversational product — a workflow, a knowledge base, tool integrations — where per-minute GPU rendering cost at scale is a real constraint.
